We have been getting ready for our mock election at Wyman Elementary in Rolla, Missouri. We are going to be having our election tomorrow October 30. Our third grade class is hosting the mock election for the whole school so we had to get a few things ready before Wyman students were ready to vote.

First, we came up with a list of jobs that will need to be covered on the day of the election. Here is the list we came up with:

  • Class guides – We decided we didn’t want to have classes standing in line for a long time so we decided to have a class guide go get each class when we were ready for them.
  • Voter Registrations Checkers – These people make sure that voter registration cards are complete and collect them. (Only second grade on up were going to bring registration cards.)
  • Signature book keeper – Before receiving a ballot in a real election, you must sign your name so we have a person watching our signature book. (Second grade and up).
  • Ballot distributor and demonstrator – The person handing out the ballots and showing citizens how to use the ballot.
  • Voter assistants – These people help voters to find empty voting booths and assist as needed.
  • Ballot Box Guards – The guards made sure that no one messes around with the ballot box.
  • Counters/Election judges – This group are doing the actual counting of the ballots by keeping tally marks. They are also the election judges that must agree on disputed ballots.
  • Graphers – The graphers are going to take the data from the counters and represent the data in some way visually.
  • Photographer – The photographer will be taking pictures and video of the event while giving voters their privacy as well.

We also decided to slightly modify the #kidvote ballot to make it more like the ballots that most of our parents will see in our area. We also created a ballot for the kindergartners and 1st graders that would be participating.

Next, we created a simple chart and graph for our counters and graphers.

One last thing to share with you. If you have Smart Notebook, you might enjoy this Notebook file about presidential elections. Click on the picture to download the 16.8 MB file.

Hopefully we will have some picture and movies to share after tomorrow! We hope you have a happy mock election day whenever you are doing yours!
